Scuttlebutt Forum - Orange Bowl Regatta

(Miami, FL) - Coconut Grove Sailing Club’s 47th Annual Open Orange Bowl Regatta saw an incredible duel between two young Laser sailor-athletes, each campaigning for an Olympic berth. Canadian Robert Davis of Kingston, ON and American Kyle Rogachenko of Collegeville, PA put on a spectacular display in a 24 boat fleet on Biscayne Bay, December 27-30.

Ten races were sailed in generally very good conditions, with one throw out. Going into the final day, Kyle and Robert were tied. After the final race, they were still tied at only 14 points, trading firsts and seconds in the last two races. Kyle won the tie-break. Gordon Lamphere of Lake Forest, IL was third.

CGSC’s own Augie Diaz won the Laser Masters Class with relative ease. Michael Matan of New York, NY was second, Paul Wurtzebach of Woodridge, IL was third.
