SPEAKER
From West End to Rum Cay and Back
Wed., Sept. 8, 7 p.m.

Peter Branning and Martha Boston are back from 3 months cruising the Bahamas - from West End through the Abacos, Eleuthera, the Exumas, Long Island and Rum Cay. They'll share what they learned on this their maiden voyage about anchoring, weather, navigation, spearing fish, living aboard, and other highlights on land and sea.

And remember: Wednesdays now are Caribbean Spice Night-- with a new island menu that's become a big hit!
CRUISING TO CAY SAL
Wed., Aug. 4, 7 p.m.
CGSC member Tony Battaglia shares tales from his sail to this no-frills corner of our favorite island chain
"This is not the trip for everyone, an uninhabited place with no facilities, socializing, or help of any kind. But it's a stark alternative to e.g., the Abacos, and it can be done in two weeks, although we were there three."
That's how Tony describes the destination of Cay Sal, a desolate but stunning corner of the Bahamas. Come hear how he and his twin brother spent their three-week sail, their adventures and close calls (the Bahamian Navy was involved). Tony's a great story teller, and we think he's a great person to kick off our 2010-11 CGSC Speaker Series. We'll have tables set up in the meeting room, so you can eat and listen to this fascinating presentation.

The Coconut Grove Sailing Club is pleased to announce a FREE new seminar, hosted by long-time CGSC Race Chair - Ron Rostorfer. Open to members and non-members.
With the beautiful Biscayne Bay as our backdrop and the fantastic racing/sailing grounds in our backyard that includes the Atlantic Ocean too, how can you not want to get out there and enjoy it all?
This course will help you to enjoy some of the bigger cruising races out in the Bay and offshore that are fun for all classes of boats, even the coastal cruiser who can enjoy these distance races and have fun in a regatta environment. No pressure, just a complete understanding of what is required on the water for rights of way for racing, how to read the "Notice of Race" and the "Sailing Instructions", and how to make it a pleasurable experience for you and your crew, no matter what level of class you wish to race your boat, just as many of us enjoyed for the recent 35 mile Miami to Key Largo Race down Biscayne Bay.
The US Sailing booklet, "Handy Guide of Racing Rules" will be handed out, courtesy of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association. Optional “Run What You Brung” practice race with on-the-water coaching starting at 1400. Seminar attendee crew available. Come find out why people race sailboats for a lifetime!
It will be a new experience that opens up new on-the-water adventures for you!
Register in advance with Lauren Simpson in the CGSC office 305-444-4571, Ext. 10, or OfficeAssistant@cgsc.org
